Anderson at 18 months

I have had a lot of thoughts about my sweet boy lately, and I'm afraid that life will get busier and I will forget to write them down.  So tonight I wrote a lot down, in a note to Anderson.  I'm sorry if it gets too sappy, but I do love my boy SO much, and I am 8 months pregnant.  Hope you enjoy catching up with Anderson. :)

To my dearest Anderson at 18 months,
Sweet boy, I would freeze time if I could, except that I have continued to love each little change and each new phase even more than the last. I hope in this note I will freeze just a moment and we will always remember these precious days.
Sometimes I worry that you are too young, too new, too little to be a big brother.  I worry that I will not be able to give you all of the time that you so completely deserve. My worries sometimes creep in. But then, Anderson, I am reminded that God has planned this beautiful family for us.  Mommy and Daddy hoped and prayed so much for you, and we have long hoped and prayed for our family.  But you, and Baby Brady, are gifts straight from God.  Before I even noticed, God saw how brave and strong you were growing. He knew you were ready.  Before I could see it, God knew that you have so much love in your heart that you needed a baby brother to pour your love into.  I’m so glad, sweet Anderson, that you will be the big brother for this family.
You can do so many things, and you are always amazing Daddy and me! Just earlier this afternoon, you and Daddy were looking at a book full of pictures, and Daddy said, “He is so smart! He knows every one of these!”  You are so smart, Anderson, and you are so patient. One of your very favorite things to do is to sit and look at a book.  You like to point at pictures, letters, and numbers, and you wait for us to tell you what they are.  But really, you’re just being polite because you know so many of them already.  When we ask you to find letters or animals or pictures, you almost always get it right.  I can’t think of a (capital) letter you can’t already find.  And if there is something new, after just practicing once or twice, you seem to know that one, too.  You recognize and point out your family and best friends in person and in pictures.  Daddy and I have to try not to show off too much because we are just so proud of you!
You also love for us to read to you.  Some of your favorite books right now are “Love You Forever,” “Happy Pig Day”, “LMNO Peas,” “Brown Bear,Brown Bear,” “Biscuit,” “Click, Clack, Moo,” “Llama, Llama Red Pajama,” and “Watson”books.
You ask us about a lot of things.  Usually you say, “Maaa?” and point to something so that we can tell you about it.  We wonder if this means “mama” or “more” or if you have just found that it works for you, and we usually figure out what you want.  You can tell us what a fishy, elephant, the Count, and sheep say. Sometimes you tell us about a dog, Santa, and a bird (which just sounds like anything else but high pitched.) You call mama and dada by name. Sometimes we can hear “uma” and papa. Most of the time everyone is “mama,” though.  You are very good at saying “bye bye” with the cutest southern accent.  You say bye to the TV when we turn it off, the bath when it’s time to go, and people as we get ready to leave.  You can tell us how old you are “wuu” and show us one finger. Sometimes you’ll say “turtle”, which is the cutest little word I’ve ever heard.  You’ll say, “Yea!” some, and you used to talk about “a ball” a lot, but not as much lately.  Very recently you’ve started shaking your head “No” when I ask you something.  You seem so sure, but I don’t think you always mean “no” yet.  You’re still figuring that one out.
You started walking by yourself the day that you turned 17 months old (Nov. 26, 2012.)  Now you are an excellent walker.  You can pick things up, stand up, carry things with you, and sometimes you start to run.  When you fall down usually you just say, “Uh oh!” and keep moving.
You are such a happy little guy.  You have the best laugh ever, and you seem to love laughing as much as we love to hear you.  Peek-a-boo still makes you laugh, and so do silly things that people say.  You like to play chase/ hide, and you also like closing doors. I have to keep up with you because you sometimes close a door and sit so quietly hiding that it would be hard to find you.  You love to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and we try to let you watch it once or twice a day. If you’re feeling sick (like just now you had RSV and an ear infection!)we spoil you with a little extra Mickey. Really we love it too, though, because you are the best snuggler in the world while you watch it.  You give hugs and kisses a lot, but I am so lucky to get the most of them!  You also love to play with Mama’s hair, and your own hair, too.  You’re learning to be gentle and not pull hair.  You are also learning not to hit, when you’re playing or when you’re upset.
You love to drink milk, and you definitely have some favorite foods. You love grilled cheese, macaroni and cheese, raviolis, cheese quesadillas, noodles, bread, and sometimes you get excited about chicken nuggets.  You have a banana for breakfast every day, and you really like cereal (the healthy kind!) and waffles.  You love green beans and sweet potatoes best, but you will usually eat some corn and peas. You also like olives a lot, which I think is funny.  You like apple sauce a lot and sometimes you’ll eat your grapes.  Mommy keeps hoping you’ll find more fruits and vegetables that you love. You are a growing boy.  The doctor said you weigh about 23 and a half pounds. It’s hard to believe I knew you when you were just 5 pounds and 10 ounces coming home from the hospital.
Anderson, you bring more joy into Daddy and my lives than anything else in this world.  We love you so much and we thank God for you every day.  Hugs, hugs, hugs and kisses!
LOVE,
Mama

The most wonderful time of the year!

Christmas is full of so many good things!  Here are some photos to remember this sweet Christmas and the festivities that led up to it.

Ryan, Anderson and I ventured out to Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens for their big light display.  Ryan and I went just the two of us 3 or 4 years ago, and we thought this year Anderson would like it, too.  He cruised around in his stroller a lot of the time, but he got out for a little exploring too.

This was the "kids area", so I let Anderson point to the different colors.  I was a little paranoid that someone was going to come fuss at us, but he was loving it, and he was very "gentle".

Daddy and Anderson checking out the lights garden.  That's a giant watermelon-light behind them to the right.

Lauren and Kyle drove into town the evening of December 23.  With Anderson's bedtime to consider, we all gathered at our house for some pizza and -most importantly- our annual sugar cookie decorating contest.  Our official judge, Grandma, was in AZ this Christmas, so we all had to anxiously await the results over night.  As a regular favorite, but never-before-Champion, my dad got the W this time.  We've all figured this thing out, though, as the last 3 or 4 years the Nativity submission has won.  Next year it will be a battle of the mangers ;).

The next morning was Christmas Eve.  Anderson and I played at home (and he took a great nap, good boy) while Ryan worked until 2.  Then we booked it over to the 3:00 church service with Ryan's family.  Anderson was so good throughout the service.  We've been trying the church nursery (which has resulted in tears for most of the service 2/3 times :(  ), so I was very happy he did so well staying (relatively) quiet with all of us in the service.  Goldfish were crucial to this success.

After church, we hurried over to see Santa at Bass Pro Shop (last year we learned that the Legendary Santa Ryan grew up visiting heads back to the North Pole at 2, leading us to visit Bass Pro Shop).  We called ahead and everything to make sure Santa would still be there.  We were assured that Santa was leaving at 5.  So we hustle in at 4:40 .  We are told by 6 employees who are literally standing in a circle chatting that Santa has an appointment and is gone.  Clearly Santa was not gone, as we could all see him.  We plead our case (I may have whined a bit, but it was for the sake of my baby and Santa!), and they said we could go (they also let the next 6 families go ahead without any trouble.  You're welcome fellow-last-minuters.)  Santa himself was lovely and jolly and seemed very happy to see us.  Anderson not so much.....

Poor baby.  But after I fought to get him on Santa's lap, we were getting that picture!
We figured group shots weren't really an option, so we took a few with "Frosty" before heading out.

We had dinner and opened lots of presents at Nannie and Papa's house.  We forgot our camera, but picture TONS of cute toddler boy clothes, a Little Tykes basketball hoop, a train, lots of books for Anderson.  Plus clothes, PJs, shoes, a purse, etc. for Ryan and I.  And this was all before Santa came!

Speaking of Santa, here are some of our favorite photos from Christmas morning.

The race track from Mommy and Daddy was exciting to play with right away.  Anderson was pretty much content to just play with one or two things, so we had to keep encouraging him to open more.  We had fun, and he was a happy boy!

Santa must have known that Anderson loves LMNO peas and had "loved" the H I J page right out of the book.  As you can see, Anderson was very happy to have a fresh copy of one of his favorite books.

After a yummy breakfast brought to you by MY Christmas present from Ryan...
mmmm... we went with Chocolate Chip waffles this morning, and they were delish!
We had a quick visit from Nannie and Papa and then got ready to head to Montpelier for the rest of Christmas day.

Happy to be with Grandpa and Grandma!

Sweet boy

Opening presents from Aunt Lauren and Uncle Kyle

Playing with the giraffe from L and K.  It was a hit. :)

Great-grandma sent Chuck the Truck!  We've all been wanting this ever since we saw Liam get one for his second birthday :)

Lauren and Kyle helping get dinner ready.  I was feeling really pregnant (as usual these days), and I wasn't all that helpful :)

Reading with Aunt Lauren

and Grandpa... please notice Grandpa's Christmas present (from my mom), which was a huge hit!  Brookstone sure knows how to make a foot massage-er!  We're all a little jealous...

And our entertainment for the evening...

The next day we took a trolley ride all throughout downtown Richmond.  It was a fun way to see lights beyond our normal "West End" stops.  Poor Anderson wasn't feeling great.  Just as his RSV was getting better, it turns out an ear infection was starting (as we found out at his doctor's appointment the next day).  So he was as snugly as ever.  He did perk up and eat his dinner on the trolley, and he pointed and "oohed" at some of the lights.

Our cute ride

A little nap along the way

Some of the lights
At the James Center.  It was soo cold at this point!

Finally got a group shot of the Harden family.  This was a little Christmas miracle- one shot and everyone's eyes were open!

We ran back up to a great view in Church Hill so that Ryan could get a great sky-line shot.   I've stolen it for the blog. :)

I realize this is a super-long blog, but it's full of lots of happy memories.  AND we're not really finished celebrating yet.  The Parker family gets together for a Christmas party this Saturday.  Even if Ryan and I can't manage to get out the door with a charged battery, memory card, and camera, we can ALWAYS count on Michael to be there taking amazing pictures.

Merry Christmas!!!

Thanksgiving pics!

Here are some photos from Thanksgiving 2012.  We got to spend the day with most of the Parker (Ives) family, my parents, and all of our Cassons. :)

Lunch was at Jerry and Colleen's house with most of the Parker family...

Looking at a Tin Man bird feeder with Papa

Such a pretty day!  Lots of the kiddos got outside to play.  Here we see Toby (with Papa), Parker and Augy  (with Jerry). With Jonathan's family unable to make it, sweet Phoebe was far outnumbered by all of the boys!!

Our little guy joined in some, but he was also happy to hang out with the flower bed for a while :)

Relaxin

Then over the river and through the woods to Grandma and Grandpa's house for dinner.  The Cassons were with us, which was very happy.  But they were all here because at the end of the Thanksgiving weekend Sarah, Chris, Liam, and Colin started the move back to AZ...  not happy for us Hardens/ Ives!

Michael, Sarah, Colin, Chris, Liam, Me, Anderson, and Ryan

At this point Anderson was a few short days away from walking, but he had a grand time playing chase with Liam anyways!
